Agartala, September 20, 2025: Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and ruling party MLA, Dipak Majumder, has called upon the state government to establish an Astalaxmi Haat at the Agartala-Akhaura Integrated Check Post (ICP), citing its potential to strengthen the state’s economy and highlight the cultural diversity of the North East.
Raising the issue in the Assembly, Majumder said the Agartala-Akhaura ICP records substantial passenger movement from Bangladesh. “Although the numbers have slightly dropped due to certain reasons, on average, around 2,000 people use this ICP daily. After Punjab, Tripura is the only state where the Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guards of Bangladesh (BGB) jointly conduct a retreat ceremony, which also attracts many tourists,” he stated.
He informed the House that several facilities, including a visitor gallery and cafeteria, have already been set up for the convenience of visitors in the area.
Majumder further added, “Since Prime Minister Narendra Modi assumed office, he has given special attention to the development of the North East, including Tripura. Establishing an Astalaxmi Haat within the ICP premises will not only promote the beauty and diversity of the region but also contribute significantly to the state’s economic growth.”
