Agartala, March 24, 2026: Passengers arriving at Tripura’s Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport and Agartala railway station will soon be able to avail online cab booking services as the Tripura government has initiated steps to introduce the facility at the two key transit points.

Announcing the move during the second session of the state Assembly, Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said the initiative is aimed at improving passenger convenience and ensuring smooth transport services for travellers arriving in the state capital.

The minister was replying to a private member’s proposal moved by Kalyani Saha Roy, who urged the government to introduce app-based cab services in line with facilities available at major airports across the country.

A high-level committee comprising the Transport Secretary, IG (Law and Order), Traffic SP and other concerned officials has been constituted to examine operational modalities and oversee implementation of the service, Chowdhury informed the House.

The proposal received support from several legislators, including Shailendra Chandra Nath, during the discussion.

The government said the initiative is part of efforts to strengthen urban transport infrastructure in line with Agartala’s Smart City development plan.

Once operational, the online cab booking system is expected to provide passengers with a hassle-free and technology-driven travel option, reducing dependence on manual hiring arrangements and improving accessibility.
