Agartala, January 28, 2025: Tripura has emerged as the first state in the North Eastern region and the eighth in the country to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Digital India Bhasini Division of the Government of India. This landmark initiative aims to address linguistic barriers in government services through real-time translation, enabling citizens to access critical services in their native languages.

IT Minister Pranajit Singh Roy announced this milestone while inaugurating a workshop on the Bhasini Rajyam system at Pragya Bhavan in Agartala today. Highlighting the state’s achievements in IT services, the Minister stated, “E-cabinet systems have already been launched, and every Panchayat and Village Committee in the state has been connected to e-office services. With this MoU, Tripura takes a significant leap forward in the field of information technology.”

The Minister emphasized that the Bhasini platform will eliminate linguistic challenges in online data entry and government operations. “This system will empower citizens to access government services in their own languages. It will play a pivotal role in fulfilling the dream of a self-reliant and developed India,” he added.

He also shed light on initiatives aimed at boosting IT literacy among the youth. “The government has provided financial assistance to 50,000 college students to purchase smartphones. Currently, 19 out of 30 colleges in the state have free WiFi services, and we aim to extend this to the remaining 11 colleges soon,” Roy stated.

Amitabh Nag, CEO of the Digital India Bhasini Division, highlighted the platform’s capabilities during a PowerPoint presentation. “The Bhasini Rajyam system currently supports 22 major Indian languages. Future developments will include regional languages, enhancing inclusivity across the nation,” Nag remarked. He also noted that this was the fifth such workshop held nationwide.

State Information Technology Department Secretary Kiran Gitte delivered the welcome address, emphasizing the Prime Minister’s vision behind the flagship project launched in 2022. “Through Bhasini, citizens can effortlessly access various government services, including e-district and e-office facilities. Plans are also underway to provide WiFi in every school and hospital across the state,” he shared.

Senior officials, including Shailendra Pal Singh, Senior Divisional Manager of the Digital India Bhasini Division, and State IT Department Director Jeya Ragul Geshan B., also attended the event. A training session on using the Bhasini Rajyam system followed the inaugural ceremony, with participation from representatives of various state departments.

This initiative marks a significant stride in Tripura’s journey towards leveraging technology for inclusive development and bridging the digital divide.
