Agartala, November 01, 2025: In a remarkable recognition of professional excellence and swift justice delivery, Woman Inspector (UB) Swapna Bhowmik of Belonia Women Police Station has been awarded the Kendriya Grihamantri Dakshata Padak 2025 for her outstanding work in the field of investigation.
Inspector Bhowmik was honoured for her exemplary handling of Belonia Women PS Case No. 2024WMN029, registered on September 15, 2024, under Sections 127(1), 96, 76, and 65(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The case resulted in a conviction within 257 days of its registration—an achievement reflecting the efficiency of the new criminal justice framework.
The case originated from a missing report of a minor girl lodged on September 14, 2024. Acting promptly, Inspector Bhowmik traced and rescued the victim the same night, registered the case, facilitated medical examination, and ensured that the victim’s judicial statement was recorded under Section 183(5) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) the next morning.
Her meticulous investigation led to the swift arrest of the accused and the filing of a charge sheet within 47 days on October 31, 2024. The trial, conducted in a Fast Track Court, culminated in conviction with the following sentences: 20 years of Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) and a ₹10,000 fine under Section 6 of the POCSO Act, and 2 years RI and a ₹2,000 fine under Section 137(2) of the BNS.
Additionally, the victim was granted ₹2 lakh under the Victim Compensation Scheme.
The case stands as one of the early success stories under the new criminal laws—the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA)—aimed at ensuring prompt and effective justice to victims.
