Agartala, April 06, 2026: Around ten BJP workers, including a party candidate, were allegedly assaulted in two separate incidents in Sepahijala district, with accusations pointing toward the Tipra Motha Party.

Majee Debbarma, the BJP candidate from the Pekurjala Janmejoynagar constituency under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), reportedly suffered head injuries while conducting a door-to-door campaign.

Sepahijala Sabhadhipati Supria Das Datta stated that Debbarma was campaigning as usual when the incident occurred. She alleged that a group of miscreants suddenly attacked the candidate and party workers, vandalized vehicles, and created chaos during the outreach programme.

Datta further claimed that the attackers were समर्थित by the Tipra Motha Party. She alleged that with declining public support, the party had resorted to such actions as more people were shifting allegiance to the BJP. Condemning the incident, she said such violence reflects desperation.

In a separate incident, Tripura Panchayat Minister Kishor Barman alleged that nine BJP workers were injured and a party election office was set ablaze late at night by Tipra Motha-backed miscreants.

According to him, the incident took place in Rampada Para and Bibhuram Chowdhury Para under the Nalchar Assembly Constituency after party workers had wrapped up campaign activities and returned home. He said he received calls around 11 pm informing him that the election office had been torched.

Barman alleged that similar incidents had occurred during the 2023 Assembly elections and accused Tipra Motha of continuing a pattern of violence. He also claimed that local residents had identified those involved in the attack.

Stating that the BJP does not support violence, the minister alleged that party workers were attacked with sticks and rods when they reached the spot. Several injured workers are currently undergoing treatment, he said, adding that such acts would not deter the party from its electoral prospects.
