Agartala, March 18, 2026: Concerns over acute shortage and deployment of doctors in Amarpur sub-divisional hospital and Mirza Primary Health Centre (PHC) under Kakraban Assembly constituency were raised by BJP MLAs Ranjit Das and Jitendra Majumder on the floor of the House on Tuesday.
During the supplementary queries, both legislators expressed dissatisfaction with the current state of medical staffing at Amarpur Sub-Divisional Hospital and Mirza Primary Health Centre (PHC), highlighting the difficulties faced by local residents due to inadequate healthcare services.
MLA Ranjit Das also sought clarification regarding the opening of a blood bank at Amarpur Sub-Divisional Hospital. Responding to the query, Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, who also holds the Health and Family Welfare portfolio, stated that the government has no plans to establish a blood bank at the facility. He explained that as per the guidelines of the National Blood Transfusion Council, the hospital does not meet the minimum criteria required for setting up such a facility.
Raising further concerns, Das informed the House that the hospital had only two to three specialist doctors, out of which two had been deputed elsewhere, while another proceeded on leave and later joined a different healthcare institution. He questioned the lack of awareness regarding such transfers and urged immediate posting of specialist doctors, emphasizing that patients are bearing the brunt of the shortage.
Echoing similar concerns, MLA Jitendra Majumder pointed out that despite the inauguration of Mirza PHC nearly four years back, no doctor has been posted at the facility to date. He stated that repeated appeals to the Directorate of Health Services have not yielded any positive outcome and stressed that the posting of at least two to three doctors is essential for ensuring basic healthcare delivery.
Although the Chief Minister did not provide immediate replies to the supplementary concerns, it is understood that the issues have been noted, and necessary steps are expected to be taken to address the shortage of doctors in both institutions.
