Agartala, March 12, 2026: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday suspended the Unakoti district president of its youth wing, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), Arup Dhar, following allegations of immoral conduct, a senior party leader said.
The suspension came two days after a married woman, who is the mother of two children, filed a complaint accusing Dhar of sexually abusing her for nearly a year.
In an official order, BJP Tripura Pradesh General Secretary Amit Rakshit stated that the action was taken after the party received allegations that Dhar had been involved in activities that could harm the party’s image.
The order read that, pending submission of his written explanation, Dhar has been placed under suspension with immediate effect for alleged gross misconduct as directed by the state president of the party.
Rakshit further instructed that Dhar must submit his written explanation regarding the allegations to the BJP Pradesh Office in Agartala on or before March 18, 2026.
Meanwhile, the complainant, speaking to reporters after filing the complaint, alleged that she had been in a relationship with Dhar for about a year, during which she claimed she was sexually exploited.
The woman said Dhar had arranged a rented room for her in Kumarghat, but she was evicted by the house owner within four days. She also alleged that Dhar later blocked her phone number, leaving her unable to contact him.
Stating that she had no other option, the woman said she eventually decided to file a formal complaint with the authorities regarding the matter.
