Agartala, September 18, 2025: Border Security Force (BSF) personnel thwarted yet another drug smuggling attempt along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Sonamura sub-division on Wednesday morning.
Troops of the 49th Battalion arrested a woman identified as Rabia Khatun (32) from Gate No. 178, Boxanagar Paschimpara under Sepahijala district and recovered 2,000 Yaba tablets from her possession. Acting on a tip-off, BSF conducted a search operation which led to the seizure.
BSF sources said the consignment belonged to a local smuggler, Monir Hossain, a resident of Madhya Boxanagar, who has allegedly been involved in cross-border drug trafficking for a long time.
Following her arrest, Rabia was handed over to Kalamchoura police station for further investigation. Officials said that interrogation and confidential leads may help expose the wider smuggling network.
Local sources claimed that smuggling rackets have recently adopted new tactics, including using women couriers, to push contraband across the border. Clashes, chases and counter-chases between BSF and smugglers have become frequent in the area.
Police have launched a probe to trace the network, and further arrests are likely based on the disclosures of the detained woman.
