Agartala, February 27, 2026: Tripura government announced a series of decisions aimed at strengthening governance, expanding social justice mechanisms and improving educational access. Addressing a press briefing, Tourism Minister and Cabinet Spokesperson Sushanta Chowdhury on Thursday detailed the cabinet’s key resolutions.

As part of the recruitment initiative, the government approved the appointment of 48 personnel across departments. Under the Revenue Department, six Assistant Survey Officers and ten Revenue Inspectors will be recruited through the Tripura Public Service Commission. In addition, 32 Junior Drivers will be appointed under the Health and Family Welfare Department through direct recruitment by the Transport Department.

The cabinet also cleared an enhancement of daily stipends for students staying in residential hostels run by the Scheduled Caste Welfare Department. The stipend has been increased from ₹80 to ₹100 per day, benefiting 712 students residing in 33 boys’ hostels, 22 girls’ hostels and one government-managed NGO facility.

In the education sector, approval was granted for opening free coaching centres to assist Tripura students preparing for national-level competitive examinations. UPSC coaching will be conducted for 12 months at the Birchandra State Central Library, offering 20 hours of classes per week. Coaching for SSC, RRB and IBPS examinations will be provided at Government Degree College and Netaji Subhash Government College, with six-month courses comprising 24 hours of weekly classes. Admissions will be merit-based, limited to permanent residents of the state, with a maximum intake of 100 students per centre.

A major social welfare decision announced was the launch of “Nari Adalat” as a pilot initiative in ten panchayats under the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. Implemented by the Social Welfare and Social Education Department, these village-level courts aim to provide speedy and accessible justice to women facing domestic violence, harassment and other forms of abuse.

The Nari Adalats will function in Phulbari, Serampur, West Sonatala, Lembuchhara, Khedachhara, Tepania, Vivekanandapalli, Singinala and Halahali. Each Nari Adalat will be run by a nine-member committee comprising respected community representatives and local leaders.

Officials said the combined measures reflect the government’s focus on employment generation, educational empowerment and the creation of grassroots-level justice delivery systems, particularly for women.
