Agartala, November 25, 2025: In a significant decision aimed at benefiting state government employees, the Tripura Cabinet on Monday approved a proposal to convert all ad-hoc promotions into regular promotions with retrospective effect from the date employees were elevated to higher posts.

Briefing reporters after the Cabinet meeting at Civil Secretariat in Agartala city on Monday evening, Cabinet spokesperson and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said the move was made following Chief Minister Manik Saha’s initiative and would provide long-pending relief to thousands of government staff.

According to Chowdhury, 13,082 officials and employees who were granted ad-hoc promotions earlier will now be treated as regularly promoted, subject to the outcome of a Special Leave Petition currently pending before the Supreme Court.

Promotions in several government departments had remained stalled due to the court case. The previous decision of the BJP-led government in 2021 to grant ad-hoc promotions helped maintain administrative functioning, he noted. The latest Cabinet decision now regularises those promotions.

“All government departments have been directed to compile details of employees — both retired and in service — so that the benefits can be extended without delay. Everyone eligible will receive the benefit,” he added.

The decision is expected to address long-standing concerns among government employees about service regularisation and subsequent financial entitlements.
