Agartala, August 19, 2025: Tension ran high at Tripura’s GB Hospital in Agartala on Monday night after the sudden death of 45-year-old Tapan Mia, a resident of Dashamighat Joynagar, who was admitted with complaints of chest pain.

According to family members, Tapan was rushed to the state’s premier referral hospital late at night after experiencing severe discomfort. Doctors admitted him for observation, and within a few hours, he appeared to recover, even conversing with relatives and sitting up on his bed.

The situation, however, turned fatal when an on-duty doctor administered an injection. Within minutes, Tapan collapsed, leaving his family in shock. He was declared dead shortly afterward.

Devastated relatives alleged negligence and demanded a probe into the type of injection given. “We have dealt with his chest pain earlier and he recovered under treatment in private clinics. Since it was late at night, we came to GB Hospital, trusting it as the biggest hospital in Tripura. But negligence here cost my husband’s life,” Tapan’s wife said with tears.

However, a senior doctor in condition of anonymity informed that the matter is yet to be investigated and can be briefed thereafter.

Relatives pressed hospital authorities for details of the injection and accountability from the medical staff. The incident triggered unrest within the hospital premises, with patients and attendants voicing concerns over treatment protocols.
