Tripura CM Dr Manik Saha Highlights Engineers’ Role, Announces First Airtel Data Center in Eastern Zone on Engineers Day

Agartala, September 16, 2025: Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha on Monday emphasized the crucial role of engineers in the overall development of India and Tripura during the 58th Engineers Day celebration held at Pragya Bhavan, Agartala.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Saha extended greetings on the occasion and paid tribute to Bharat Ratna Dr. M. Visvesvaraya, whose pioneering contributions in drinking water resource management earned him the nation’s highest civilian honor. “Every year on September 15, we remember the invaluable contributions of Dr. Visvesvaraya, a true visionary in engineering and nation-building,” the Chief Minister remarked.

Highlighting Tripura’s commitment to technological advancement, Dr. Saha announced that Airtel is setting up a data center in Tripura for the first time in the Eastern Zone, with land provided by the state government. “This data center will mark a significant milestone in the state’s digital infrastructure and boost economic growth,” he said.

Dr. Saha highlighted the indispensable contribution of engineers in infrastructure development, from bridges and roads to building designs and digital initiatives. “Without engineers, no progress is possible,” he stated, referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India by 2047 and Tripura’s roadmap aligned with this national goal. “Tripura currently ranks fifth in the country in infrastructure development, and this government has allocated around ₹7,000 crore in the latest budget to further advance this sector.”

He stressed the growing responsibility of engineers in the modern era, especially with emerging technologies. “With advancements like e-offices extending from the cabinet to the block and Panchayat levels, engineers play a pivotal role in transforming governance and service delivery,” he said.

The Chief Minister called upon engineers to uphold accuracy and responsibility in every project, and urged them to innovate for the future by utilizing local resources to improve livelihoods, per capita income, and the state’s GSDP.

Dr. Saha also remarked, “From the world’s tallest statue, the Statue of Unity in Gujarat, to the Chenab Bridge in Jammu and Kashmir, these engineering marvels are testaments to the ingenuity and perseverance of our engineers.”

Among the dignitaries present were Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, NIT Director Prof. Sharat Kumar Patra, Works Department Secretary Kiran Gitte, Rural Development Secretary Abhishek Singh, Chairman of the Institute of Engineers Parmanand Sarkar Banerjee, Chief Engineer Rajiv Debbarma, and officials from various engineering bodies.

The function concluded with a collective pledge to contribute to Tripura’s progress, driven by engineering excellence and innovative solutions.
