Agartala, December 08, 2025: Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Monday visited Ramnagar to pay his last respects to Saptarshi Das, a 23-year-old medical intern who lost his life in a tragic road accident on the Delhi–Lucknow national highway on the night of December 3.

The Chief Minister met the grieving family, expressed his deep condolences and stood in solidarity with relatives, friends and neighbours who gathered to bid a final farewell to the young doctor.

Saptarshi was travelling with his friends Arnav Chakraborty, Ayush Sharma and Shrestha Pancholi when their car collided at high speed with a stationary truck and overturned. All four were killed in the accident. Saptarshi was nearing the completion of his MBBS internship at Venkateshwar Medical University in Lucknow, with just three months remaining to begin his professional career.

The family’s sorrow was further intensified by repeated flight disruptions across the country, which delayed the arrival of his mortal remains from Delhi to Agartala. Despite the completion of the autopsy and clearance for transportation, consecutive cancellations of IndiGo flights forced the family into a distressing wait, requiring them to return the body to the mortuary and make repeated travel arrangements.

His mother Arpita Deb Sarkar recounted the emotional ordeal of being assured of confirmed flights, only to face last-minute cancellations. After three days of uncertainty, the body was finally brought to Agartala today and taken to the family residence in Ramnagar, where people gathered to pay their tributes.

The Chief Minister’s visit reflected the depth of the tragedy, as the entire locality joined in mourning the loss of a young life filled with promise and dedication to the medical profession.
