Agartala, January 09, 2025: Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the opposition, accusing them of habitual obstructionism and dismissing their criticism of the state’s law and order situation. His remarks came in response to opposition parties questioning recent government data showing a significant decline in crime rates.

Speaking to the media personnel here, Dr. Saha said, “The opposition’s job is to oppose. Their words never match their actions.” He cited data presented by the Director General of Police (DGP), which indicated that Tripura recorded its lowest crime rate in two decades, with an 8.3% drop in criminal incidents over the past year.

“This is a major achievement,” the Chief Minister asserted. “The government is working tirelessly for the development of the state, and the police are operating independently to maintain law and order. That is why we are seeing such results.”

Dr. Saha criticized the opposition for refusing to acknowledge the state’s progress. “They are unwilling to accept the success of the state. There is no point in engaging with their baseless claims. Tripura is moving forward, and our government is committed to the welfare and development of the people,” he added.

The Chief Minister also addressed the controversy surrounding the State Intelligence Report (SIR) in West Bengal. “There is nothing new about the SIR,” he said. “If the Chief Minister of West Bengal has done so much for her state, why is she afraid? She knows she is going to lose this election, and that fear is showing.”

Dr. Saha’s remarks come amid heightened political tensions in the region, with both Tripura and West Bengal gearing up for upcoming electoral battles.
