Agartala, October 08, 2025: Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha today accused the Trinamool Congress of orchestrating political violence in North Bengal, saying attackers targeted workers who were delivering relief to flood-hit families.
Addressing journalists, Dr. Saha warned that political tensions have escalated sharply as the flood crisis deepens. “Many areas are flooded, thousands are homeless, and victims are languishing in extreme misery,” he said, stressing that the humanitarian emergency should rise above party politics. According to the Chief Minister, while MP Khagen Murmu, BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh and their associates were distributing relief, they were set upon by a group of “Trinamool-supported miscreants” armed with what he called “lethal weapons.”
“It is shameful to attack people who are carrying relief. This proves how Trinamool is indulging in political violence instead of standing by the distressed people,” Dr. Saha said.
He also alleged that elements from Kolkata had come to the region to stage a spectacle aimed at diverting national attention from the real crisis. “We have heard that three or four people have come from Kolkata, but we do not know what they will do. All these dramas are just an attempt to divert attention at the national level. The people of North Bengal are watching everything,” he said.
Dr. Saha accused the ruling party of suppressing dissent and undermining development, declaring, “The Trinamool is sitting like a stone on the chest of Bengal. Now Bengal needs to be liberated.”
The Chief Minister’s remarks come amid growing public anger over the floods and intensifying political confrontations in the affected areas.
