Agartala, November 18, 2025: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday accused the former UPA government of fostering large-scale corruption and major scams, asserting that the BJP is now positioned to take charge in West Bengal and put an end to what he termed “jungle raaj.”

Dr. Saha made the remarks at a programme in Takarjala under the West District, where 135 voters from 42 families formally joined the BJP. Welcoming them, he said their decision would further strengthen the party, which he noted has been expanding its presence across the country and leading governments in most states.

He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for transforming governance through welfare programmes aimed at national development, the Northeast, and Janajati communities. He also pointed to the creation of the DoNER Ministry as a significant step toward accelerating progress in the region.

The Chief Minister said he would soon travel to Bihar to attend a swearing-in ceremony, adding that the state—once synonymous with “goonda raj and corruption”—had undergone a remarkable turnaround under the NDA. “People no longer want corruption or jungle raj,” he said.

Recalling the UPA’s tenure, he alleged that the period was riddled with scams and lacked decisive leadership. In contrast, he said, the Modi government has strengthened national security and stabilised the country. “Before 2014 there was unrest across India, including the Northeast. After 2014, everything changed,” he remarked.

Dr. Saha also criticised certain groups in Tripura for allegedly misleading the public and appealed to them to join the BJP instead. Reiterating the party’s commitment to indigenous communities, he said Tripura had endured fear and violence during CPIM rule. He concluded by expressing confidence that the BJP would soon form the next government in West Bengal and restore peace.
