Agartala, August 27, 2025: Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on Tuesday called upon both doctors and patient families to discharge their respective responsibilities sincerely to ensure a healthy and trust-driven atmosphere in medical services across the state.

“Doctors must provide services to the common people with utmost sincerity. Only then will the foundation of public trust in the state’s medical system be created. At the same time, the families of patients also need to fulfill their responsibilities to maintain a healthy environment in hospitals,” the Chief Minister said while inaugurating the 20th foundation anniversary celebration of Tripura Medical College (TMC) and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Teaching Hospital.

The event, held at the Vivekananda Auditorium of the hospital, also witnessed the inauguration of the renovated playground and new gallery on the college premises. In addition, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for a Trauma Care Center (G+4) and a Residential Building (G+13). A blood donation camp was also organized as part of the celebration.

Highlighting TMC’s role, Dr. Saha said, “Tripura Medical College has set an example of transparency in its functioning. Such systems must also be developed in other health institutions of the state. The profession of a doctor is a noble one, and it is essential to uphold this respect by treating patients with responsibility.”

The Chief Minister also emphasized the need for adopting modern technologies, including Artificial Intelligence, in healthcare. “Science and technology are undergoing unprecedented change. If used properly for human welfare, systems like AI can take medical services to a unique level. But for that, skill development of doctors is equally necessary,” he remarked.

Dr. Saha further informed that the state presently has 400 MBBS seats, while a request has already been made to increase the number of seats in Tripura Medical College from 100 to 150. He also urged the hospital authorities to further promote and strengthen their work.

Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, in his address, pointed out that Tripura is investing significantly in healthcare. “Three percent of the state’s GDP is spent on developing health infrastructure, which is higher than many big states in the country. Tripura is also witnessing the highest business investment in the medical sector. We are planning to establish another medical college to improve health facilities in tribal areas,” he said.

The event was also addressed by Dr. Promthesh Roy, Chairman of the Society for TMC, CEO Swapan Saha, Principal Prof. (Dr.) Arindam Dutta, and Prof. (Dr.) A.K. Chakma, Secretary of the Foundation Anniversary Celebration Committee.

On this occasion, the Chief Minister and other dignitaries felicitated students who excelled in examinations and sports competitions. Former teachers, students, doctors, education workers, and staff members attended the program in large numbers.
