Agartala, January 06, 2025: Tripura Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha highlighted the pivotal role of nurses in the healthcare system, emphasizing the need for a robust nursing framework in health institutions. Addressing the lamp lighting and oath-taking ceremony for the second batch of B.Sc. Nursing students at the Agartala Government Nursing College Auditorium on Monday, the Chief Minister also inaugurated the college’s IT lab.

Speaking as the chief guest, CM Saha remarked, “Nurses are indispensable in providing health services. The state government is committed to strengthening the nursing system to ensure better healthcare outcomes.”

Paying homage to Florence Nightingale, the Chief Minister noted, “Certain individuals, like Florence Nightingale, are remembered through their extraordinary contributions. Today, the lamp lighting ceremony is a tribute to the founder of modern nursing.” He urged the nursing students to uphold their oaths with dedication and integrity.

At the event, Sutapa Chakraborty, a tutor at the Nursing College, administered the oath to the 49 students of the second batch. The Chief Minister acknowledged last year’s successful enrollment of 48 students in the inaugural batch and praised the institution’s legacy, which dates back to its establishment in 1950.

Highlighting the infrastructure, CM Saha shared that the college is equipped with advanced facilities, including smart classrooms and specialized labs like the Foundation Lab, Advanced Nursing Lab, Pediatric Lab, and Midwifery Lab. He noted that the state’s health system has significantly improved, with a reduction in referral patients seeking treatment outside the state.

The Chief Minister also outlined plans to establish more modern health institutions, reinforcing Tripura’s ambition to become a healthcare hub. Acting Principal Dr. Maitree Chowdhury and Additional Secretary of the Health Department Rajiv Datta were among the dignitaries who addressed the gathering.
