Tripura Conducts Fourth Successful Kidney Transplant at AGMC & GBP Hospital

Agartala, September 09, 2025: Tripura marked another milestone in healthcare as doctors at Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GBP Hospital successfully performed the state’s fourth consecutive kidney transplant.

The surgery was carried out on a 23-year-old youth from Rabindrapalli, Sidhai Mohanpur, who received a kidney from his 45-year-old mother. According to the Health Department, the complex procedure was jointly conducted by specialists from AGMC & GBP Hospital and Sija Hospital and Research Institute, Manipur. Both donor and recipient are reported to be stable.

The medical team included Consultant Nephrologist Dr. Manas Gop and his colleagues, along with consultant urologists Dr. Mukut Debnath, Dr. Bijit Lodh, and Dr. Jiban Debnath. From Manipur, transplant surgeons Dr. Soumorendra Pounam and Dr. Maharabam Mahili played a crucial role, supported by anesthesiologists Dr. Kajal G. Momin and Dr. Gayatri S. Pillai.

The operation was further assisted by nurses, OT technicians, transplant coordinator Himadri Kar, and Senior Nursing Officer Tapati Chakraborty.

In a statement, the Health Department credited the achievement to the guidance of Chief Minister Prof. (Dr) Manik Saha, noting that Tripura’s healthcare infrastructure is steadily advancing under his leadership.
