Agartala, June 27, 2025: The Tripura’s Sadar District Congress on Thursday held a protest rally here in Agartala city against alleged atrocities on tribals, scheduled castes, OBCs and minorities across the country. The rally began from Pradesh Congress Bhavan and culminated in a demonstration outside the West Agartala police station.

Pradesh Congress President Asish Kumar Saha led the protest and strongly criticized the BJP-led state government. Speaking to reporters before the rally, Saha said, “BJP leaders in the state are making absurd statements. The Chief Minister had promised good governance, but he has completely failed to deliver.”

Referring to yesterday’s attack on the official residence of MLA Sudip Roy Barman, Saha alleged, “Anti-social elements under the shelter of the ruling party are creating unrest. The role of the police is nothing short of cowardly.”

As the rally reached the West Agartala police station, Congress workers became agitated and surrounded the premises. Police closed the station gate to prevent escalation. MLA Sudip Roy Barman arrived at the scene and managed to pacify the protesters.

Additional police and paramilitary forces were deployed in the Post Office Chowmuhani area, and the situation is currently reported to be under control.

On the other hand, Dharmanagar District Congress staged a protest demanding the arrest of alleged BJP-linked miscreants involved in the attack on the official residence of MLA Sudip Roy Barman. The demonstration culminated in a march through the town’s main roads, expressing outrage over the incident and the state government’s failure to curb violence.

During a gathering of tribals, OBCs, Scheduled Castes, and Scheduled Tribes at Ambassa, Congress leaders accused the BJP of repeated neglect and humiliation of tribal communities, citing a recent incident in Madhya Pradesh involving a BJP leader. Digvijay Chakraborty of the District Congress criticized the Modi-led central government, calling the Prime Minister “a failure” and alleging continued marginalization of disadvantaged communities.

Protesters further alleged that the Tripura Chief Minister and Home Minister have failed to maintain law and order and are complicit in rising political violence. They demanded Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha’s immediate resignation, warning of a statewide agitation under the National Congress banner if their demands remain unmet.

Meanwhile, the Teliamura District Congress Committee staged a protest today condemning an alleged attack on the official residence of Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman, purportedly staged by the BJP’s Janjati Morcha.

The procession marched through various roads of Teliamura culminating in a street corner near the marble statue of Indira Gandhi. Former MLA Ashok Kumar Baidya, District President Pradyut Bhattacharya, Pradesh Congress Secretary Kartik Debnath, District Krishan Congress Chairman Pradip Kumar Das and Block Congress President Atanu Pal were present.

Addressing the gathering, Baidya alleged that the state BJP incited its tribal wing following revelations by Roy Barman about a controversial incident involving a BJP MLA in Madhya Pradesh. He claimed the BJP is attempting to deflect public attention from growing discontent and warned that the people are ready to respond politically in due time.
