Agartala, July 09, 2025: Tripura has made significant strides in organic farming, with over 25,000 hectares of agricultural land converted into certified organic land, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath announced today. He was addressing the first-ever Organic Buyer-Seller Conference held at Hotel Polo Towers in Agartala.
Highlighting the state’s growing footprint in organic agriculture, the Minister said that more than 1,332 metric tonnes of organic products have been exported from Tripura over the past three years. These include 666 MT of pineapple, 574 MT of ginger, 52 MT of turmeric, 33 MT of fragrant rice, and 7 MT of bird’s eye chilli. The products have reached markets across Indian cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, and Guwahati, and international destinations such as Dubai, Oman, and Dhaka.
“Today’s world demands not just food, but food that is safe, chemical-free, and traceable. Organic farming is not a trend, it’s a future-ready solution to health issues, climate change, and soil degradation. Tripura is ready to lead that change,” said Minister Nath.
He further noted the establishment of 53 certified Organic Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) in the state. These are cultivating high-value crops such as GI-tagged Queen Pineapple, Bird’s Eye Chilli, Harinarayan and Kalikhasa fragrant rice, black rice (Maimi Hunger), fragrant lemon, sesame, turmeric, ginger, millet, and Q Pineapple.
The Minister emphasized the superior qualities of these products. “Tripura’s Queen Pineapple is exceptionally sweet and low in acidity, making it perfect for premium juices and desserts. Our Harinarayan and Kalikhasa rice are prized for their aroma and taste, while bird’s eye chilli is rich in capsaicin, boosting metabolism and aiding digestion,” he said.
On the national scale, Nath shared that 7.3 million hectares across India are under the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP), producing 6.3 million MT annually, with exports valued at ₹4,007 crore.
“This conference is not just a business meet—it’s a platform for building trust and long-term partnerships. Together, let’s make ‘Organic Tripura’ a key pillar of ‘Organic India’,” Nath concluded, inviting attendees to visit farms and witness the transformation first-hand.
