Tripura Court Sentences 32-Year-Old to Life Imprisonment for 2019 Rape Case

Agartala, August 19, 2025: After a prolonged six-year legal battle, the Tripura’s District Sessions Court of Sonamura, Sepahijala district on Monday sentenced 32-year-old Nuro Nabi, son of Kazim Uddin and resident of Madhya Boxanagar under Kalamchaura police station to life imprisonment for raping a 27-year-old woman at knifepoint in 2019.

According to case records, the crime took place on May 18, 2019 around 11:30 pm, when Nabi forcibly entered the house of Hazrat Ali, a resident of Madhya Boxanagar and raped his wife. Following the incident, a case was registered at Kalamchaura police station under Sections 457, 376 and 506 of the IPC.

During the investigation, police arrested Nabi and collected physical, scientific and medical evidence with the help of a 10-member investigation team. After detailed analysis, a chargesheet was filed in the court, leading to his trial.

Delivering the verdict today, the District and Sessions Judge of Sonamura sentenced the convict to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹5,000 under Section 376 IPC. In default of payment, he will serve two months of rigorous imprisonment.

Additionally, under Section 457 IPC, Nabi was sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of ₹2,000. In default of payment, he will undergo further imprisonment as ordered by the court.
