Agartala, March 31, 2026: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) has lodged a formal complaint with the State Election Commission, alleging violation of the Model Code of Conduct in the run-up to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council(TTAADC) elections.

In a letter addressed to the Election Commissioner, CPI(M) Tripura State Secretary Jitendra Chaudhury accused the junior partner of the ruling coalition, Tipra Motha, of misusing official position to influence voters. He alleged that the party, in alignment with its senior ally Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), sanctioned and distributed financial assistance from the ADC exchequer after the election schedule was announced.

Citing a local news report, the CPI(M) leader claimed that on March 17—the day the poll schedule was declared—the ADC administration approved over Rs 30 lakh as medical grants. The amount was reportedly transferred to 292 beneficiaries belonging to newly resettled Reang refugee families in Kanchanpur, Damcherra and Panisagar.

While acknowledging that medical assistance is generally granted on humanitarian grounds and may be exempt from poll restrictions, Chaudhury questioned the uniform disbursement of Rs 10,275 per beneficiary and its selective distribution across only three villages out of eleven such resettled locations. He termed the move as an attempt to influence voters using public funds.

The CPI(M) has urged the State Election Commission to immediately intervene and halt further disbursement of funds until the completion of the elections, if not already done. It also called for strict enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct, particularly provisions related to the conduct of parties in power, to ensure a free and fair electoral process.
