Agartala, May 23, 2026: Tension gripped the Gokulnagar Rastarmatha area after an elderly man alleged that he was physically assaulted by a TSR jawan while trying to gather information about his missing son. The incident has triggered widespread concern and unrest among local residents.
According to the allegations, TSR jawan Bijoy Das had earlier arranged for Sajal Debnath, son of Narayan Debnath, to travel abroad for work. Since leaving home, Sajal reportedly lost all contact with his family members. The family claimed that although Sajal returned to the state nearly three years ago, he did not visit his own residence and instead went directly to the house of Vijay Das.
Family members further alleged that after staying there for a brief period, Sajal was once again sent abroad by the TSR jawan. Since then, Narayan Debnath and his relatives have repeatedly approached Vijay Das seeking information about Sajal’s whereabouts. However, they alleged that they were consistently threatened and subjected to abusive behaviour whenever they raised questions.
The family stated that on May 19, when Narayan Debnath once again tried to inquire about his son in the Rastarmatha area, Vijay Das along with his nephew allegedly accosted and physically assaulted the elderly man.
Following the incident, tension spread across the locality. The injured elderly man and his family have appealed to the administration for a proper investigation into the matter and demanded strict action against the accused.
