Agartala, May 02, 2025: In a recognition of his groundbreaking work in sustainable farming, Hiralal Das, a progressive farmer from Tripura, has been nominated as a member of the Board of Management of the Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal, for a three-year term.

Das, who hails from Purba Ramchandra Ghat village in the Khowai district, has been widely acknowledged for his innovative agricultural practices and his leadership in the local farming community. As Secretary of the “Naveen Farmers Club,” established with the support of Khowai and NABARD, he has led several initiatives that have improved productivity and sustainability in the region.

“I am honored to be nominated to the Board of Management of CAU. This recognition is not just mine, but for all farmers who are striving to adopt modern and sustainable methods,” said Das.

On his 3.5 acres of land, Das has implemented a range of successful techniques, including the use of soil health cards, true potato seed cultivation, integrated pest and nutrient management, and rice seed production. He has also diversified into poultry farming, cattle rearing, vermicompost production, and early vegetable cultivation such as spine gourd and cabbage. His efforts have helped him achieve an annual income of Rs 4.8 lakh.

“Mr. Das’ work exemplifies the future of Indian agriculture—innovative, self-reliant, and community-focused,” said a senior official from NABARD.

Under his leadership, the Krishak Club has established a permanent office and a custom hiring center, enabling local farmers to access essential agricultural machinery. His new role on the CAU Board is expected to bring grassroots insights into agricultural policymaking, further contributing to the national goal of doubling farmers’ incomes.

“This is a significant step forward. Now I will have the opportunity to advocate for farmers like myself on a larger platform and help shape policies that benefit rural communities,” Das added.

The Central Agricultural University, headquartered in Imphal, Manipur, is one of the premier agricultural institutions in the country, playing a vital role in education, research, and policy development in the northeastern region.
