Agartala, June 03, 2026: In a bid to promote grape cultivation and create awareness among farmers about its potential, a one-day field-based awareness programme was organized at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) on Wednesday. The initiative focused on educating farmers about modern techniques of grape farming, improved varieties, and effective marketing strategies.
Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath attended the programme as the Chief Guest. He was accompanied by SW&SE Minister Tinku Roy, Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Amalendu Das, and other dignitaries.
A major highlight of the event was the formal launch of a NABARD-funded project aimed at the evaluation and popularization of different grape varieties. Stakeholders expressed optimism that the initiative would significantly expand the scope of grape cultivation in the region and create new income opportunities for farmers through crop diversification.
Prior to the formal session, the ministers and invited guests visited the grape orchards at the KVK premises. They reviewed the cultivation practices, assessed the quality and sweetness of the grapes, and interacted directly with farmers to understand their experiences and challenges.
Experts at the programme provided insights into scientific cultivation methods, pest management, and post-harvest handling, emphasizing the role of technology-driven agriculture in enhancing productivity and profitability.
The organizers stated that similar awareness programmes would be conducted in the future to encourage wider adoption of modern fruit cultivation practices. Such initiatives are expected to play a crucial role in strengthening agricultural diversification and improving the economic condition of farmers in the region.
