Agartala, March 07, 2026: Aiming to finalize preparations for the upcoming census, a high-level meeting of the State Level Census Coordination Committee (SLCC) was convened at the Tripura Secretariat on Friday which will be conducted in two phases across the state in line with the national exercise.
Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha chaired the session, attended by senior officials including Finance Secretary Apurba Roy, Urban Development Secretary Milind Ramteke, Panchayat Department Secretary Abhishek Singh, Higher Education Secretary Ravel Hemendra Kumar, Social Welfare Director Tapan Kumar Das, and Information & Culture Affairs Director Bimbisar Bhattacharya, among others.
Opening the discussions, L.T. Darlong, Secretary of Planning and Statistics and the state’s census nodal officer, underscored the importance of the exercise and outlined the preparatory schedule. Ratan Biswas, Director of the Census Department, presented a detailed plan, noting that the census will unfold in two stages—housing enumeration followed by population enumeration.
According to the announced timeline: Self-enumeration: July 17–31, 2026; Housing enumeration & house list preparation: August 1–30, 2026; Population enumeration: February 9–28, 2027.
Chief Secretary Sinha emphasized the need for meticulous execution, urging officials to adhere strictly to deadlines. He assured full administrative support to ensure the success of the exercise.
District Collectors and Additional Collectors joined virtually, sharing updates on local-level preparations.
