Agartala, March 30, 2026: Tripura will receive Rs 3,450 crore under the Centre’s ‘Pride of Hills’ initiative for 2026-27, Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said on Sunday.

Taking to social media, Chowdhury thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for introducing the scheme under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI).

He said the funds would be utilised to strengthen infrastructure, boost tourism and support key developmental and financial needs across sectors in the state.

As per official documents, the ‘Pride of Hills’ component has been designed to tackle structural challenges faced by hill states, such as tough terrain, remoteness, sparse population and limited avenues for revenue generation.

The document highlighted that these states often face fiscal stress, marked by higher debt-to-GSDP ratios, lower internal revenue mobilisation and heavy reliance on central assistance.

It added that the enhanced financial support aims to fast-track development through increased capital expenditure while also helping states manage committed liabilities.

A total outlay of Rs 25,000 crore has been earmarked for this component for 2026-27, in addition to allocations under other segments of SASCI.

Among the states, Arunachal Pradesh has been allocated Rs 4,900 crore, followed by Himachal Pradesh (Rs 3,920 crore), Nagaland (Rs 3,880 crore), Uttarakhand (Rs 3,460 crore), Tripura (Rs 3,450 crore), Manipur (Rs 2,400 crore), Meghalaya (Rs 2,070 crore), Sikkim (Rs 820 crore) and Mizoram (Rs 100 crore).
