Agartala, January 3, 2026: Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Saturday said that the state government will decide on whether schools should be closed due to the ongoing cold wave only after receiving an updated forecast from the Meteorological Department. His remarks come amid rising public concern over the sharp dip in temperatures.

Dr Saha acknowledged that several citizens have urged the administration to suspend classes in view of the chilly conditions. He confirmed that the Meteorological Department has been asked to submit a detailed projection of temperature trends in the coming days, and stressed that any decision will be based on this assessment.

Highlighting the importance of uninterrupted learning, the Chief Minister noted that shutting schools is not the government’s immediate priority. He underlined that while safety is paramount, maintaining continuity in education must also be considered before implementing winter-related closures.

The Chief Minister revealed that a file on the matter has already reached his office. However, he has directed officials to consult the Weather Department before proceeding further. He admitted that concerns remain about a possible further drop in temperatures, and assured that the government will act promptly if conditions worsen.

Dr Saha concluded by stating that once the weather report is available, the administration will weigh all options carefully, keeping the welfare of schoolchildren at the center of its decision-making process.
