Agartala, September 5, 2025: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Thursday announced that the state government has begun the process of establishing a dedicated Women’s University in the state, calling it a landmark initiative in the journey of women’s empowerment and higher education.
The announcement came while Dr. Saha, who also serves as Education Minister, addressed the 64th State-level Teachers’ Day celebration at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala. Highlighting the government’s ongoing efforts, he said that strengthening educational infrastructure remains a top priority.
“We have waived all kinds of fees for girls studying in government degree colleges and distributed scooters under the Mukhyamantri Kanya Atmanirbhar Yojana to encourage them to pursue higher education. The Women’s University will further empower young women,” he said.
Dr. Saha noted that the peaceful environment in Tripura has drawn interest from reputed institutions to set up campuses in the state. “Our aim is to develop Tripura as an education hub. Along with dental and nursing colleges, MBBS seats have also been increased,” he added.
Paying tribute to teachers, he remarked that they are like “the roots of a tree, nurturing students who grow into branches, flowers and fruits.” He underlined that Tripura has been steadily implementing the National Education Policy (NEP), with reforms designed to ensure transparent recruitment of teachers.
On employee welfare, the Chief Minister pointed out that the government has already raised DA and DR by 29 per cent, bringing the total to 32 per cent—without protests or agitation. “Our effort is to narrow the DA gap between state and central employees,” he assured.
The occasion also saw the presentation of awards to eminent personalities: educationist Dr. Atul Debbarma received the Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar Award, social worker Samir Chakraborty the Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee Award, and headmistress Pranati Debbarma the Maharani Tulsibati Award.
Distinguished guests at the event included former Tripura University Vice-Chancellor and Padma Shri awardee Dr. Arunoday Saha, Special Secretary Ravel Hemendra Kumar, and senior officials from the Education Department.
