Tripura Government Declares Three-Day State Mourning After Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen’s Sudden Demise

Agartala, December 26, 2025: Tripura plunged into mourning following the demise of Biswabandhu Sen, Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly and MLA from Dharmanagar constituency. The state government has declared a three-day period of state mourning from December 26 to 28 as a mark of respect for the late leader.

In an urgent notification issued by the General Administration (Political) Department on December 26, it was announced that the national flag will be flown at half-mast across the state during this period. All forms of official entertainment have been suspended.

According to the notification, Speaker Sen breathed his last at 3:30 AM on December 26 in Bengaluru. His mortal remains will be brought to Agartala on Saturday, December 27.

As part of the state mourning, all government offices, public sector undertakings (PSUs), and educational institutions in Tripura will remain closed on December 26. The late Speaker will be accorded a state funeral with full honours on December 27.

Biswabandhu Sen served as the 11th Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly. His sudden demise is being widely mourned across political and public spheres. Political leaders and citizens alike have expressed deep sorrow, remembering him as a seasoned, composed, and widely respected public figure.
