Agartala, July 30, 2025:
Following the directions of the Chief Minister Prof Dr Manik Saha, the Directorate of Secondary Education, Government of Tripura has constituted a high-level inquiry committee to investigate the tragic suicide of Trisha Majumder, a student of Class XII at Sonarpur Higher Secondary School, Barpathari in Belonia.
As per the official memo issued on Tuesday evening, the committee comprises three senior officials: Lisa Bardhan, Joint Director of Elementary Education; Kajal Kumar Bhowmik, OSD at the Directorate of Secondary Education; and Sudip Sarkar, OSD, Office of the District Education Officer (West Tripura).
Preliminary reports suggest that Trisha’s suicide may have been triggered by alleged scolding from a teacher prompting urgent intervention by the department.
The memo has been signed by NC Sharma, Director of Secondary Education states: “Prima facie, it is reported that scolding of one teacher of the school has led her for committing suicide.”
The committee has been directed to visit the school, carry out a detailed enquiry covering all relevant aspects and submit its report by Wednesday.
The directive was marked as “Matter Most Urgent” and sent to all concerned authorities for immediate action. A copy of the memo has also been forwarded to the Special Secretary of the School Education Department for necessary information.
