Agartala, August 01, 2025: In a key decision aimed at recognizing the vital role of community leaders in tribal society, the Tripura Cabinet on Thursday approved a substantial increase in the monthly honorarium for Samajpatis (tribal community heads) from ₹2,000 to ₹5,000.

Announcing the Cabinet’s decision, Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha said, “This move reflects our government’s deep respect and recognition for the Samajpatis, who have been instrumental in maintaining social harmony and guiding their communities.”

In a notable inclusion, the revised provision will now also cover Samajpatis who are serving government employees or pensioners.

“Our aim is to ensure that no deserving Samajpati is left out, irrespective of their employment status. Their contributions to the tribal society are invaluable, and this honorarium is a small token of our gratitude,” Dr. Saha added.

The decision is being widely appreciated across tribal belts of the state, where Samajpatis play a key role in local governance, conflict resolution, and cultural preservation.
