Agartala, January 30, 2026: In recognition of its significant and multi-dimensional contributions to Tripura’s overall development, the state government has honored Swadhin Trust and its flagship institution, Tripura Santiniketan Medical College & Hospital.
The felicitation took place on Thursday evening at the 36th Tripura Industries and Commerce Fair. In a proud and celebratory moment, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha presented the award to Swadhin Trust President Malay Pit.
Officials noted that the recognition is not merely a celebration of one institution’s success, but a clear message highlighting the importance of integrated progress in health, education, industry, women’s empowerment, and social advancement.
Founded on the belief that no state can achieve holistic growth without strong healthcare, educational infrastructure, and women’s economic empowerment, Swadhin Trust established the Tripura Santiniketan Medical College & Hospital. The institution has already emerged as a vital pillar in the state’s health and education system. Notably, in its very first academic session (2024–25), the college admitted 150 MBBS students from 21 states across India, earning recognition from the World Book of Records (London).
Accepting the honor, Malay Pit said: “This award is a recognition of the work we have begun for Tripura’s development and our commitment to expand it further in the coming days. It is a matter of pride, but even more a responsibility.”
He added that education and healthcare are deeply linked with employment generation, skill development, and social empowerment.
Local residents echoed this sentiment, noting that the medical college has not only made advanced healthcare more accessible but also created direct and indirect employment opportunities for many youths, boosting the state’s economy.
The Trust’s initiatives have also spurred growth in allied sectors such as transport, housing, small businesses, and services, creating a balanced pattern of development across both rural and urban areas.
Looking ahead, Swadhin Trust has announced plans to expand modern healthcare facilities, strengthen research, and invest in human resource development. Its core mission remains delivering quality healthcare to marginalized communities across Tripura.
