Agartala, November 13, 2025: On the birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay, the Tripura government unveiled three new welfare schemes aimed at enhancing women’s safety, dignity, and social inclusion.
Led by the Department of Social Welfare and Social Education, the initiatives include the Balika Samriddhi Yojana, Kanya Bibaha Yojana, and an expanded pension scheme for persons with disabilities and mental health conditions.
In an exclusive interview at his residence in Chandipur, Minister for Social Welfare and Social Education Tinku Roy emphasized the government’s commitment to action over publicity. “Earlier, there was more talk than work. This government believes in visible results,” he said.
Minister Roy explained that the Balika Samriddhi Yojana is designed to combat child marriage and adolescent pregnancy while promoting financial security for girls from Antyodaya families. Under the scheme, the government will deposit Rs 50,000 in a fixed account for up to two daughters born in such families. The amount will be handed over to the beneficiary upon turning 18.
Eligibility criteria include birth must occur in a government health facility, the mother must be at least 18 years and 9 months old at the time of delivery, and families that marry off daughters below 18 years will be disqualified.
“This is not just financial aid, it’s a social pledge to ensure every girl’s dignified and secure future,” Roy stated. He expressed hope that the scheme would significantly improve awareness around girls’ education, health, and safety, especially among marginalized communities.
The minister also announced an increase in the monthly pension for mentally challenged and disabled individuals to Rs 5,000. “Our goal is to ensure that no one with mental health challenges becomes a burden on their family. They deserve a life of dignity,” he said.
Additionally, the government has raised the funeral assistance for Antyodaya families from Rs 2,000 to Rs 10,000.
Roy acknowledged that many impoverished tea garden workers lack Antyodaya ration cards. To address this, he has submitted a written request to the Chief Minister to extend scheme benefits to those holding priority ration cards in these areas.
The minister concluded by expressing confidence that these initiatives will not only uplift living standards but also foster a culture of compassion and equality across the state.
