Agartala, May 17, 2025: In a major boost to higher education in Tripura, the state government has announced the establishment of two new Government Degree Colleges in Gomati district—one at Kakraban and the other at Karbook. The institutions are set to begin operations from the 2025-26 academic session.
According to an official order issued by Animesh Debbarma, Additional Secretary of the Education (Higher) Department, the move aims to enhance access to quality education and contribute to the socio-economic development of the region.
The new colleges will offer undergraduate programs across various disciplines, with intake capacity and subject offerings to be determined based on local demand and resource availability. Admissions will be conducted in accordance with the norms of the affiliating university, while seat reservations will follow existing state government policies and reservation acts.
“These institutions are expected to play a pivotal role in regional development by providing quality education across a broad spectrum of subjects,” the order stated.
The academic structure—including curriculum and examinations—will align with the regulations of the affiliating university and the Higher Education Department. The department will also manage the recruitment of teaching and non-teaching staff, including the appointment of principals.
Effective immediately, all administrative and financial affairs will be handled under the official designations of “Government Degree College, Kakraban” and “Government Degree College, Karbook.”
