Agartala, August 01, 2025: Reaffirming the Tripura government’s focus on strengthening the state’s healthcare framework, Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy on Friday announced renewed efforts to curb the outmigration of nursing graduates by expanding local employment opportunities.

Speaking at the second foundation day celebration of the Agartala Government Nursing College, held at the Florence Nightingale Auditorium in the IGM Hospital Complex, the minister credited Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha’s leadership for major developments in both urban and rural healthcare services.

“Under the BJP-led government and with the chief minister’s direct supervision, there has been visible improvement from referral hospitals to grassroots facilities like district and sub-divisional centers,” said Singha Roy.

A key concern highlighted during his address was the trend of nursing graduates leaving Tripura in search of work. To tackle this, the state is introducing targeted initiatives to retain skilled healthcare professionals within its borders.

“Our government is committed to creating local job opportunities so that qualified nurses no longer have to leave Tripura for employment,” he said, adding that substantial investments are being made in infrastructure, medical technology, and human resources to support this goal.

The minister also lauded the contributions of nurses, calling them the “backbone of the healthcare system” and acknowledging their dedication to patient care.

Health Secretary Kiran Gitte and other senior officials were present at the event, which celebrated the institution’s progress and the vital role of nursing professionals in the state.
