Agartala, March 28, 2026: A hatchery unit aimed at strengthening the rural economy and promoting self-reliance among women in rural areas was inaugurated at Paschim Pilak Gram Panchayat under Jolaibari RD Block in South Tripura.

The newly launched “Maa Durga Krishi PG Duckling Production (Hatchery) Unit” was established with financial support of ₹1 lakh from the discretionary fund of Indra Sena Reddy Nallu, Governor of Tripura, and ₹3.5 lakh from Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission under the Rural Development Department.

Officials said the project was implemented under the guidance of TRLM through the active participation of women self-help groups associated with Muhuripur Cluster Level Federation in Jolaibari.

The hatchery unit is expected to provide easy access to ducklings for local producer group members and self-help group women, enabling them to take up duck rearing activities in their own villages. The initiative is expected to create sustainable income opportunities and strengthen livelihood generation in the surrounding rural areas.

The project was set up with the support and supervision of Jolaibari BDO Nababrata Datta, whose role was acknowledged during the inauguration ceremony.

The programme was attended by Jolaibari Panchayat Samiti chairman Tapas Datta, along with the Pradhan and Up-Pradhan of Paschim Pilak Gram Panchayat and other local dignitaries.

Officials described the hatchery as a significant step toward expanding duck farming in the area, creating employment opportunities, and reinforcing the rural economy of the region.
