Agartala, October 28, 2025: In a bid to combat child marriage and enhance financial security for marginalized families, the Tripura Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, has approved a new flagship scheme titled Mukhyamantri Balika Samriddhi Yojana. The scheme is specially designed to support girl children born into Antyodaya (economically weakest) households.

Announcing the decision during a press briefing, Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said that under the scheme, a fixed deposit of ₹50,000 will be made in the name of each girl child at birth, limited to two daughters per family. The amount will be released when the girl attains the age of 18, with the objective of supporting higher education, marriage, or other essential life requirements. Eligibility criteria mandate that the birth must take place in a government hospital, and the mother must be at least 18 years and 9 months old at the time of delivery.

Minister Chowdhury said the scheme was introduced to discourage child marriage and promote gender equality by ensuring long-term financial stability for girls from economically weaker sections.

In another key decision, the Cabinet approved the recruitment of 108 engineers in the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL). The positions will be filled through TSECL’s own examination process and include: Grade A: 24 Electrical Managers, 4 Mechanical Managers, and 8 Civil Managers; and Grade B: 58 Electrical Managers, 2 Mechanical Managers, and 8 Civil Managers.

Additionally, the Cabinet sanctioned the launch of a Minority Development Scheme under which beneficiaries from religious minority communities will receive ₹10,000 in two installments to support livelihood activities such as poultry and duck rearing. The scheme will benefit 1,500 people in the first phase.

To promote entrepreneurship among women, the government has also approved the Tripura Women Entrepreneurship Policy. Under this policy, women will be eligible for loans up to ₹1 crore with a 5 percent interest rebate over the standard rate offered to male applicants.

Highlighting the state’s commitment to women’s education, the Cabinet cleared a proposal for establishing a new women’s college at Nalchar to expand higher education opportunities for girls in rural areas.
