Agartala, May 28, 2026: A shocking incident of alleged attempted murder stemming from a domestic dispute has created panic in North Tripura’s Dewanpasha area under Dharmanagar Police Station. Police have detained the accused husband after he allegedly attacked his wife with a sharp machete late Tuesday night.

Local sources informed that, frequent disputes had reportedly been taking place between Joydev Barman, a resident of Ward No. 3 of Dewanpasha, and his wife, Shilpi Barman, for quite some time. The situation turned violent on Tuesday night when an altercation between the couple escalated dramatically.

In a fit of rage, Joydev allegedly grabbed a sharp machete and attacked his wife indiscriminately, leaving her critically injured. Hearing Shilpi’s screams, local residents rushed to the spot, forcing the accused to flee from the scene.

Locals immediately informed the fire and emergency services. A team from the Dharmanagar Fire Service arrived promptly, rescued the severely injured woman, and shifted her to the Dharmanagar District Hospital for treatment.

Hospital sources said Shilpi Barman sustained deep injuries to her neck and lost a significant amount of blood. Her condition remains critical, and she is currently undergoing treatment under intensive medical supervision.

After receiving information about the attack, personnel from Dharmanagar Police Station reached the area and launched an investigation. Following preliminary interrogation, the accused husband was taken into police custody.

Police officials said an investigation is underway to ascertain the exact reason behind the violent attack and whether any other factors were involved. The incident has triggered widespread concern and fear among residents of the locality.
