Agartala, July 04, 2025: Members of the Tripura Irregular Employees Forum on Friday marched through the streets of Agartala under the banner of a ‘Mahakaran Abhiyan’ to press for an eight-point charter of demands concerning nearly 40,000 irregular employees in the state.

The procession began in front of the Agartala Press Club, aimed to reach the State Secretariat to submit a deputation to the Chief Secretary. However, police forces had already set up barricades near the Circuit House area here in Agartala city, where the demonstrators were stopped. Despite this, the Forum announced that their deputation would be handed over to the Chief Secretary JK Sinha after 4 PM as scheduled.

Lawyer and Forum spokesperson Purushottam Roy Barman addressed the gathering and condemned the government for its failure to fulfill promises made earlier.

“When the BJP government came to power in 2018, it promised to regularize irregular employees. That commitment remains unfulfilled even today,” said Roy Barman.

He further explained that the rally was held not only to demand regularization but also to push for equal pay for equal work, a one-time payment of ₹10 lakh to irregular employees who have retired or died in service, and several other welfare-related demands.

“Today’s Mahakaran Abhiyan is not just a protest—it’s a demand for dignity, justice, and recognition for those who have served the system for years without security or benefits,” he added.

Participants from various parts of the state, representing different units of the Irregular Employees Forum, joined the march. When stopped by police, the protesters raised slogans in support of their demands and vowed to continue their agitation until their issues are addressed.
