Agartala, August 08, 2025: In a significant development for South Tripura’s railway connectivity, the Sealdah–Sabroom–Sealdah Kanchanjungha Express will now make trial halts at Jolaibari and Belonia stations. The Northeast Frontier Railway announced the decision through an official notification, marking a major step toward improving accessibility in the region.

The move has been welcomed by residents across South Tripura, who had long demanded a stop at Belonia since the train’s launch in June 2024. The inclusion of Jolaibari has further intensified calls for a halt at Manubazar station, one of the busiest in the district.

Local residents argue that Manubazar sees significantly higher passenger traffic than Jolaibari and is a vital hub for commuters. Alongside Sabroom and Belonia, Manubazar is considered one of South Tripura’s key railway stations. A stoppage here, they say, would eliminate travel hardships for thousands who currently have to rely on distant stations.

“If Kanchanjungha Express is allowed to stop at Manubazar, it would resolve a major inconvenience for the region’s commuters. Otherwise, while Jolaibari and Belonia passengers benefit, Manubazar residents continue to face difficulties,” said a local leader.

Tripura MP Biplab Kumar Deb expressed gratitude to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for approving the trial stoppages. In a social media post, Deb wrote:

“I sincerely thank Hon’ble Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw ji for the decision to provide trial stoppages at Jolaibari and Belonia stations for the convenience of South Tripura and adjoining subdivision residents. These halts will greatly benefit students, senior citizens, traders, and the general public.”

The trial halts are expected to be closely monitored for passenger response and operational feasibility. Meanwhile, public demand for Manubazar’s inclusion continues to grow, with local stakeholders urging authorities to consider the station’s strategic importance and commuter volume.
