Agartala, January 5, 2026: Tripura’s tourism sector received a fresh boost as Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury laid the foundation stone for a series of ambitious projects at Sachindranagar in Jirania under the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme.
The projects include the creation of a Tripura Traditional Village and Musical Heritage Experience and the development of a modern amusement and eco‑tourism park inspired by Kolkata’s Nicco Park. The Union Tourism Department sanctioned ₹48.94 crore for the initiatives in March 2025, with completion targeted within two years. Officials expect the ventures to significantly increase tourist inflow and generate employment opportunities for local youth.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Saha underlined Tripura’s rapid progress in tourism, noting that the state has already witnessed a surge in domestic and foreign visitors. He highlighted Tripura’s position as the second‑ranked Northeastern state in GSDP growth and per capita income, with NITI Aayog recognizing it as a front‑runner. The state has also bagged seven national Panchayat awards.

The Chief Minister cited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to visit Tripura as evidence of the state’s transformation under the “double‑engine government.” He emphasized that Tripura is the first state in India to achieve deregulation, with its model shared nationwide.
Dr. Saha contrasted the BJP government’s tourism achievements with the previous Left regime, which he said failed to move beyond rhetoric. He also praised the success of the Unity Promo Fest 2025, which showcased Tripura’s culture across six locations, and announced new measures including a ₹57.14 crore SIDBI Cluster Development Fund for small industries and the introduction of tourist police for safety at key destinations.
Highlighting Tripura’s cultural wealth, he pointed to the Tripura Sundari Temple—one of the 51 Shakti Peethas—which continues to draw thousands of visitors daily, especially after its redevelopment inaugurated by the Prime Minister.
Concluding his address, Dr. Saha reaffirmed the government’s vision of building a “New Tripura” within the framework of “New India,” with development advancing across tourism, infrastructure, agriculture, fisheries, and connectivity.
