Agartala, February 10, 2026: In a major push towards advanced and industry-aligned skilling, the Government of Tripura on Monday launched the IIT Delhi–led Advanced IT & Emerging Technology Skill Development Programmes under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) 4.0 at the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Agartala. The initiative is being implemented by the Directorate of Skill Development, Government of Tripura, in collaboration with IHFC (IIT Delhi’s Technology Innovation Hub) and Technology Innovation Hub (TIH), IIT Delhi.

The programme marks a significant milestone in Tripura’s journey towards future-ready workforce development, focusing on advanced job roles aligned with emerging technologies and evolving industry demands. A key highlight of the launch event was the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with global technology leaders IBM and HCL, aimed at strengthening industry-driven training, live projects, internships and placement opportunities for students from the state.

Under PMKVY 4.0, IIT Delhi will deliver specialised training in cutting-edge domains such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Blockchain, 5G and Internet of Things (IoT). The courses will place strong emphasis on face-to-face classroom teaching and hands-on lab-based learning, conducted by IIT faculty members and seasoned industry experts.

In the first phase, 300 engineering graduates will be trained through a collaborative framework involving NIT Agartala, NIELIT Agartala, MSME Tool Room Agartala and Tripura University.

Inaugurating the programme, Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director, IIT Delhi, lauded the proactive approach of the Government of Tripura. “Such forward-looking initiatives will ensure that students from Tripura are not only future-ready but also employment-ready for national and global opportunities,” he said.

Kiran Gitte, Secretary, Government of Tripura, said the initiative reflects the state’s firm commitment to bridging the education-industry gap. “Our goal is to create a skilled, confident and employable youth force that can compete in national and international markets,” he noted.

The programme strongly reinforces the vision of “Skill Tripura, Skilled India,” positioning Tripura as an emerging hub for advanced technology talent in the Northeast.
