Agartala, March 09, 2026: The Left Front in Tripura has declared that it will field candidates in all 28 seats of the upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections, unveiling a list that introduces 22 new contenders. The coalition also named its candidate for the Dharmanagar Assembly Constituency, which fell vacant following the death of former Speaker and MLA Biswabandhu Sen last month.
At a press conference, Left Front convener Manik Dey said the party was prepared for a strong contest, calling the polls “significant for the region.” He alleged that corruption was rampant under the current ruling party in the council, citing irregularities in administration and failures in delivering basic services such as education and drinking water.
“Corruption is rampant in the district council under the present ruling party. They are also unable to pay pensions to pensioners,” Dey charged.
He further demanded that the elections be conducted in a free and fair manner, claiming that polls in Tripura have not been properly held since the Bharatiya Janata Party came to power.
Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury, also present at the briefing, echoed these concerns. He accused ministers of being aware of corruption within the council and said development projects were being used as a cover for misappropriation.
“Now, in the name of development, looting is going on in the district council,” Chaudhury alleged.
Chaudhury added that candidate selection was based on experience, educational qualifications, and efforts to bring younger leaders into the fold.
