Agartala, June 01, 2026: Frustrated by the prolonged delay in resolving their grievances, several buyers of the ‘Light House’ housing project located in the Border Golchakkar area staged a protest on Monday at the office of the Tripura Urban Planning and Development Authority (TUDA).

The aggrieved buyers alleged that despite assurances that the flats would be handed over by 2022, nearly five years have passed without possession being granted. Many of them have already paid substantial amounts in two to three installments, yet the progress of construction remains extremely slow. Expressing their anguish, one protester said, “We invested our hard-earned money in the hope of securing a permanent home, but that dream has now turned into a nightmare.”

The protesters further claimed that repeated assurances from TUDA authorities have failed to translate into visible progress on the ground. They have placed a clear demand before the authorities: either hand over the flats immediately or refund the deposited amount along with applicable interest. “If they cannot deliver the flats, our money must be returned immediately with interest. We can no longer afford to wait,” another buyer stated.

According to reports, TUDA officials have now assured that the project will be completed and the flats handed over by December 2026. However, the buyers remain skeptical, citing the slow pace of construction and past unfulfilled promises. Many believe that, at the current rate, completion may take several more years.

During the protest, the buyers also appealed for the intervention of Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha. “We have faith in the Chief Minister and hope he will treat this issue with urgency and ensure a speedy resolution,” they said.

With mounting frustration and uncertainty, the protesters issued a warning that if the flats are not handed over by the promised deadline of December 2026, they will intensify their agitation and launch a larger movement demanding a full refund with interest. “We can no longer be ignored. A swift resolution is the need of the hour,” a protester asserted.
