Agartala, February 20, 2026: Tripura has been directed to complete all preparatory arrangements for the upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, scheduled to commence from April 2026, as per the latest communication issued by the Election Commission of India.

In an official letter dated February 19, 2026, the Commission instructed Chief Electoral Officers of several States and Union Territories, including Tripura, to expedite preparatory activities related to the SIR process. The exercise aims to ensure greater accuracy, transparency and inclusiveness in the electoral rolls ahead of future elections.

According to the communication, the Commission had earlier ordered a nationwide Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls through an order issued in June 2025. Subsequently, States and UTs excluding Bihar were asked to initiate pre-revision activities. The SIR process has already been announced in 12 States and Union Territories and is currently underway.

With the next phase expected to begin from April 2026, Tripura has been advised to complete groundwork at the earliest. This includes administrative preparedness, deployment planning, and other logistical measures essential for the smooth conduct of the revision exercise.

The letter, signed by Pawan Diwan, Secretary to the Election Commission of India, underscores the importance of timely preparation to ensure that the revision process is conducted efficiently and in accordance with established guidelines.

The upcoming Special Intensive Revision is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening the democratic process by updating electoral data and ensuring that every eligible citizen in Tripura is accurately represented in the voters’ list.
