Agartala, May 28, 2025: A formal complaint has been lodged with the Chief Secretary of Tripura, JK Sinha by senior political leaders of TIPRA Motha Party including Brishaketu Debbarma, Minister of State for Industries and Commerce and Purna Chandra Jamatia, Chief Executive Member (CEM) of TTAADC seeking an immediate inquiry against T.K. Chakma, IAS, District Magistrate and Collector of Gomati District.
The letter, dated May 27 and stamped as received by the Chief Secretary’s office, alleges “serious concern and administrative misconduct” on the part of Chakma. The leaders claim that the IAS officer refused to engage with elected representatives regarding pressing public issues in Gomati district.
The complaint details an incident on the evening of May 25, 2025, when Jamatia, along with Hon’ble Maharaja Kirit Pradyot Debbarma, Chairman of AARC and TTAADC, visited Chakma’s residence in Udaipur to discuss “non-implementation of MGNREGA schemes, irregularities in CM Rubber Mission beneficiary selection, non-construction of forest check dams, and other urgent public issues.”
According to the letter, Chakma “refused to meet” the delegation. “Despite the seriousness of these matters, Chakma, IAS refused to meet the Hon’ble Chairman and the CEM, TTAADC,” the letter states. It further alleges that over 20 phone calls made by Maharaja Debbarma were ignored and that the DM even blocked the Chairman’s number. “The CEM, TTAADC too have made multiple calls, which were ignored and later faced the same response of being blocked,” the leaders wrote.
Calling the behavior “completely unacceptable,” the complaint emphasizes that the concerned officer’s conduct amounted to “blatant disrespect towards public representatives” and a violation of administrative accountability.
“This behavior is unacceptable, especially towards a democratically elected leader, the Founder of TIPRA Motha Party, and also a royal scion of Tripura,” the letter asserts, referring to Maharaja Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma.
The letter goes on to say, “A public servant is duty-bound to maintain communication and coordination with elected authorities—not reject, ignore or block them. Such actions have adversely impacted the public trust and the effective governance of Gomati District as well as the State.”
The leaders argue that this is not an isolated incident but part of a “pattern of administrative arrogance and neglect of democratic norms.” They stress that Chakma’s conduct is “not aligned with the expected standards of administrative integrity and impartiality.”
The signatories have urged the Chief Secretary to “immediately initiate a formal inquiry” and take appropriate disciplinary action. “A strong message must be sent that such insubordination and disrespect towards constitutional authorities will not be tolerated now and in future also,” the complaint reads.
Lastly, the letter appeals for the appointment of a new officer “who understands the importance of working in harmony with elected institutions.”
The letter bears the signatures of minister of state Brishaketu Debbarma and CEM Purna Chandra Jamatia, and is supported by several other elected representatives, including Philip Kumar Reang (MLA), Sapna Debbarma (MLA), Nandita Debbarma (MLA, Ramg), Rajesh Tripura (EM, TTAADC), and Debajit Tripura (MDC).
