Agartala, May 19, 2025: In a major push to enhance crop production during the upcoming Kharif season, the Tripura Agriculture Department is set to roll out the ‘Bikasit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’ campaign from May 29 to June 12, 2025. The initiative aims to educate and empower farmers with modern agricultural techniques and climate-resilient practices.

The announcement follows a virtual meeting held on Monday between Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Tripura Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath, where key strategies for agricultural development were deliberated. The meeting, convened at the State Secretariat, emphasized the adoption of technology-driven farming methods to ensure sustainable agricultural growth.

“This campaign is more than an awareness drive,” said Minister Ratan Lal Nath. “It is a direct intervention to equip farmers with scientific knowledge, introduce them to new seed varieties, and prepare them for climate unpredictability.” He added that the programme will include expert-led discussions, live demonstrations, and field visits conducted by teams comprising agricultural scientists and officials from the Agriculture, ARDD, and Fisheries Departments.

Key objectives of the campaign include: Promotion of modern farming techniques; Introduction of climate-tolerant seed varieties; Boosting productivity and production of major crops; Ensuring timely availability of fertilizers; and Educating farmers about state and central government schemes.

Minister Nath also emphasized the broader goal: “Improving agricultural productivity is not just about yield. It is directly linked to increasing farmers’ income and securing their financial future.”

Echoing this vision, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan stated, “Since 2014, the central government has prioritized increasing agricultural output, lowering input costs, and securing fair prices through Minimum Support Price (MSP) procurement.” He further highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment in his third term to driving rapid agricultural growth, strengthening rural welfare, and ensuring food security.

The campaign is expected to cover all eight districts of Tripura, potentially impacting thousands of farmers across the state.
