Agartala, August 25, 2025: Tripura Power Transmission Limited (TPTL) has embarked on a major power transmission modernization initiative with financial backing from the Ministry of DoNER under the Special Infrastructure Development Scheme.

Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Monday laid the foundation stone for the re-stringing of nine high-capacity 132 KV transmission lines using High Temperature Low Sag (HTLS) conductors at Bodhjungnagar near Agartala. The ₹126.33 crore project, spanning 165 circuit kilometers, is scheduled to be completed within a year.

Addressing the gathering, Nath said the upgraded infrastructure would ensure greater stability and efficiency in the state’s power supply. “This will not only strengthen the internal power distribution network but also increase electricity export to Bangladesh and improve interstate connectivity,” he remarked.

The minister underlined that Tripura’s peak power demand is projected to touch 700 MW by 2031-32, compared to the present base of 10.71 lakh registered consumers. He also drew attention to challenges in revenue collection, noting that in several areas, including Bodhjungnagar, Khayerpur and Jirania, only around half of consumers regularly clear their bills.

Warning that natural gas reserves may dwindle in the future, Nath urged citizens to adopt renewable energy through the PM Surya Ghar Yojana. “So far, 600 consumers have joined, generating 2 MW of solar power,” he informed.

To curb power theft, the minister announced the use of drones for monitoring transmission lines and highlighted that tenders had been floated for introducing the Live Line Maintenance Technique, enabling repairs without disrupting supply.

The ceremony was attended by MLA Ratan Chakraborty, Old Agartala Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Jharna Rani Das, local gram panchayat leaders, TSECL MD Biswajit Basu and TPTL General Manager Ranjan Debbarma.

The upgraded lines will connect key transmission routes, including Bodhjungnagar–Surjyamaninagar, Ambassa–Manu–P.K. Bari, Ambassa–Kamalpur, Rukhia–Udaipur, and Rabindranagar–NEEPCO Monarchak, among others.
